Compare and contrast your experience completing and analyzing your results of the Big 5 Personality Test with that of your peer. What insights did you gain from reviewing your peer’s experience with this personality assessment? Did these insights change your mind about your own results? Compare your assessment of the benefits of knowing one’s personality type on personal and professional life to that of your peer. Comment on any differences between your classmate’s statements and your own. Provide suggestions as to how your classmate might view this type of assessment in a different light. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m. MST on Day 7 of the week and respond to anyone who replies to your initial post.

This test asks questions about how you feel in certain situations or how you take on different situations/tasks. The Big 5 Personality Test has 5 areas of concern which are openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness and neurotic-ism also known as emotional stability. By answering these different questions, we gain a better understanding about what we may need to work on or what we are excelling at.

Between both tests I preferred the online survey because it just seemed easier to do but it seemed to ask the same questions throughout. Whereas, the word document survey only asked a handful of questions and they were very straightforward. I felt more at ease answering online because I felt like the answers were more private than the other.

With my word document survey I ended up more on the neutral side in regards to openness. Conscientiousness wise I surprisingly was more flexible than structured which when I do think about it is very accurate. I’m not much of a structured person. I like to go with the flow. In the Extroversion category I scored as introverted which I’ve always known this to be true. I’m very quiet and to myself, especially in group situations. I also discovered that I focus on others people’s feelings in situations which meant that I am empathetic. Additionally, I read that I react strongly to stressors which meant I’m emotionally reactive. All of this was surprisingly accurate. By knowing a person’s personality type, it may show you your strengths and weaknesses which can steer you in the direction of a great job or away from a bad one.

The article talks about how the personality test can tell them a lot about who they might be hiring and what strengths and weaknesses they might bring to the company. I believe every company should ask future employees to take one just to get to know them better.
