Write an essay in which you will design a comprehensive language assessment for a hypothetical child with a speech and/or language disorder. Assume that your child is an 8-year-old from a diagnostic group (from Chapter 2 in Language Disorders: A Functional Approach to Assessment and Intervention) of your choice. List at least two informal and two formal assessments that you would perform. Include a justification for each based on the characteristics of the disorder and/or the principles of the functional approach. Discuss the variables that you would consider in designing the session, as well as considerations for collecting a language sample. Address how these might differ when assessing a child from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) background. What modified procedures may be used when there is a lack of appropriate assessment tools for children with limited English proficiency (LEP) or dialectal differences, who might be underrepresented in the norming population? Your paper must be two to three pages in length and utilize APA formatting and citations, including separate title and reference pages (neither of which counts towards the page requirement).
