The Center for Parent Information (2011) suggest, " intellectual
disability is when a person has certain limitations in mental
functioning and in skills such as communicating, taken care of him
or herself, or social skills. It causes learning difficulties and
and affects one's ability to perform successfully in their everyday
life. Mathew's disability can impact his overall education
tremendously. He can have difficulty understanding simple
directions and trouble remembering things. The supplementary
support and services that could be integrated into Mathews's IEP to
support his success in school is adaptations for testing,
assignment modification, social interaction support, and planning
and collaboration by staff. Interagency collaboration and community
based instruction support should very well be a part of Mathew's
life. We all know that he love outdoors and nature therefore he is
learning skills in reference to getting him involved in the
community and outdoor scenery. This will allow his social and real
life skills to be enhanced by being involved in real life
situations. He is also starting to used public transportation which
will be beneficial to him currently and beyond high school.
